On July 29th, a delegation of materials engineering experts and industry elites from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers’ Membership Affairs Committee visited Peak Kong Special Steel Co., Limited. They conducted a study tour focused on high-strength steel processing, exchanging ideas on innovations and applications in high-strength steel technology, and promoting the use and collaboration of high-strength steel in various fields.

Our company executives shared research findings on automated laser welding for high-strength steel. With the widespread use of high-strength steel, welding processes face new challenges. The low heat input welding technology developed by the Peak Kong Special Steel team effectively enhances the strength and durability of weld joints. The Peak Kong Special Steel team possesses comprehensive structural design capabilities and lean development methods, addressing the issue of traditional construction methods being unsuitable for new materials. They have developed stronger, lighter, and more sustainable steel products, earning unanimous recognition and praise from attendees.

After the technical presentation, the participants were invited to visit Peak Kong Special Steel Co., Limited modern production workshop. Inside the workshop, they gained a firsthand understanding of the various stages of high-strength steel production, from raw materials and coils to finished product inspection. They also had a detailed look at the modern production equipment and processes.

Next, the group visited the mechanical laboratory of the factory. The lab manager introduced the guests to the testing methods for the mechanical properties of steel and demonstrated experiments such as tensile, impact, and fatigue tests, showcasing the superior performance of high-strength steel under extreme conditions. The participants actively engaged with the laboratory staff, exchanging insights and discussing how to better apply the test results to practical engineering projects.

The successful hosting of this event not only advanced the application of high-strength steel technology across various fields but also fostered cooperation between experts from Hong Kong and the mainland. In the future, as high-strength steel technology continues to progress, Hong Kong and the mainland will collaborate in more areas, exploring the application prospects of steel in smart buildings, green energy, and transportation. The attending experts unanimously agreed that by strengthening technical exchanges and resource sharing, the steel industry will encounter new opportunities for innovative development.
