Excellent construction projects require materials that can withstand a variety of environments and a wide range of extreme conditions. Peak Kong Special Steel's high-strength A 500 carbon steel structural tubes provide high-end framing and skeletal support for projects of all sizes.
ASTM A500 is the standard specification for cold-formed welded structural pipe for production of round nominal pipe sizes, ASTM A500 structural pipe is welded pipe size pipe made from flat rolled steel, formed by a roller system and welded using resistance welding. The longitudinal butt joints of welded pipes should be welded along their thickness direction to ensure the structural design strength of the pipe section.
A500 carbon steel structural pipe has several advantageous qualities that make it a highly sought-after construction material for structural load-bearing applications. Some of the most well-known beneficial qualities offered by A500 carbon steel structural pipe include:
- Excellent weldability
- Good machinability
- Can be cold processed
- beautiful
- electricity
- oil
- chemical company
- high temperature
- Low temperature resistance
- Corrosion Resistant Piping Systems
- Outer diameter: 10.3-820 mm
- Wall thickness: 0.8 to 75 mm
- Length: 6m
In addition, steel pipes of other grades and specifications can be supplied according to customer requirements.
Processing: Steel should be processed according to one or more of them: open hearth, oxygen blowing or electric furnace steelmaking, and different grades of steel should be cast in sequence. Steel production enterprises should determine that intermediate materials are removed using routine procedures and clarify one level of separation.
Manufacturing: Produced from seamless steel pipes or welded steel pipes, the welded pipes are rolled by resistance welding.
The longitudinal structural design strength of the pipe, butt application pipe is a method of welding determined by its thickness.

In accordance with ASTM A500, unless otherwise specified by the customer or manufacturer, weld locations on square, rectangular, and other odd-shaped tubing shall not be located within the radius of the fillet.
According to ASTM A500, the corner radius of square and rectangular tubes shall not exceed three times the corner radius.
As standard under ASTM A500, resistance welded pipe is usually supplied without internal flash removal. If you need flash control, please indicate it when quoting or placing an order.
Tensile strength refers to the amount of tensile stress a material can withstand before breaking or failing. The ultimate tensile strength of A500 carbon steel is calculated by dividing the area of the steel by the stress exerted on it, expressed in pounds or tons per square inch of material. Tensile strength is an important measure of A500's ability to perform in an application. The tensile strength of A500 carbon steel is shown in the table below.

The outside diameter measurement of A500 carbon steel pipe must be taken at least 2 inches (50.8 mm) from each end of the pipe.
For circular structural pipe with a nominal outside diameter of 1.900 in. (48.26 mm) or less, the outside diameter shall not vary more than ±0.5% of the specified size, rounded to the nearest 0.005 in. (0.13 mm). For nominal outside diameters 2 inches (50.8 mm) and above, the outside diameter may not vary more than ±0.75% (rounded to the nearest 0.005 inches).
Square structural pipes and rectangular structural pipes must be measured on a flat surface and include allowances for convex or concave surfaces. Specified dimensions must not exceed the plus/minus tolerances shown in the table below.
Several factors must be considered when determining external dimensional tolerances for square and rectangular steel pipes. The table below and the following properties describe the precise external dimensional tolerances of A500 carbon steel.
Outside Large Flat Dimension, in. (mm) | Large Flat Dimension Tolerance, A plus and minus, in. (mm) |
---|---|
2½ (63.5) or under | 0.020 (0.51) |
Over 2½ to 3½ (63.5 to 88.9), incl | 0.025 (0.64) |
Over 3½ to 5½, inc | 0.030 (0.76) |
Over 5½ (139.7) | 0.01 times large flat dimension |
Wall Thickness: The minimum wall thickness at any measurement point shall not be less than 90% of the specified nominal wall thickness. Maximum wall thickness (excluding welds) shall not exceed 110% of the specified nominal wall thickness. The wall thickness of square structural pipes and rectangular structural pipes must be measured at the center of the flat.
Straightness: The allowable deviation in straightness for structural pipe is 1/8 inch times the total length in feet (or 10.4 mm times the number of meters) divided by 5.
Side squareness: For square structural tubes and rectangular structural tubes, adjacent sides shall not deviate from 90° by more than ±2°.
Corner Radius: For square structural pipe and rectangular structural pipe, the radius of any outside corner shall not exceed three times (3x) the specified wall thickness.
Twist: For square structural tubes and rectangular structural tubes, the twist tolerances (variation relative to axial alignment) are as shown in the table below.
Specified Dimension of Longest Side, in. (mm) | Maximum Twist in the First 3 ft (1 m) and in each additional 3 ft | ||
---|---|---|---|
in. | mm | ||
1½ (38.1) and under | 0.050 | 1.39 | |
Over 1½ to 2½ (38.1 to 63.5),incl | 0.062 | 1.72 | |
Over 2½ to 4 (63.5 to 101.6), incl | 0.075 | 2.09 | |
Over 4 to 6 (101.6 to 152.4), incl | 0.087 | 2.42 | |
Over 6 to 8 (152.4 to 203.2), incl | 0.100 | 2.78 | |
Over 8 (203) | 0.112 | 3.11 |
Twist is measured by pressing one end of the square/rectangular tube against a flat surface so that the bottom side of the tube is parallel to the surface plate at the two corners of the opposite end of the tube; alternatively, by measuring the heavier portion with a suitable measuring device difference. The height difference of the corners must not exceed the values in the table above.
