This specification covers three types and two grades of cold-formed electrofusion (arc) welded high-strength low-alloy steel pipe with a minimum yield point of 50 ksi [345 MPa] for use in welded or bolted construction of buildings and general purpose structures. Purpose.

This pipe is produced in square and rectangular sizes with a circumference of 500 cm [200 inches] or less and a specified wall thickness of 25 mm [1.00 inches] or less. The tubes are joined by two longitudinal electrofusion (arc) welds. Circumferential welds are not allowed. Sizes other than those listed in Tables 4 and 5 may be ordered provided all other requirements of the specification are met. Typical lengths are 15 to 50 ft [5 to 15 m].

Products manufactured to this specification may not be suitable for applications such as dynamically loaded elements in welded structures where low temperature toughness properties may be important. (See Supplementary Requirement S1.)

Type 3 - Backingless welding

Pipe grades are available in 50 [345] and 50W [345W]. Grade 50 [345] is made of high strength low alloy steel. The 50W [345W] grade is constructed from high-strength low-alloy steel with enhanced resistance to atmospheric corrosion.
